Effects of Hemodilution on Red Blood Cell Fragility Index

Twenty patients with coronary artery disease were selected at random to study the effects of hemodilution on red blood cell fragility index before undergoing extracorporeal circulation. The purpose of this study is to establish accurate base line values based on hematocrit ranges as a prelude to studying red blood cell trauma during extracorporeal circulation. For each patient studied, five sep...

Fragility Analysis Using A New 3D Damage Index

In this paper, an advanced analytical assessment methodology for the assessment of irregular buildings is presented. In the proposed method, 3D modeling is utilized to capture the torsional and bi-directional response of buildings. A layering technique, termed ‘Planar Decomposition’, is proposed and shown to furnish detailed information on the demand and capacity of critical members. Through it...

Overcoming Fragility

We examine the sensitivity and surface bias of convolved DGLV radiative and elastic loss in a realistic geometry including Bjorken expansion. We find that this more faithful treatment of the medium density is not a priori reproducible via fixed length approximations, and neither the fragility nor the surface emission of BDMPS-based models is seen.

The Fragility Index in a Cohort of Pediatric Randomized Controlled Trials

Data suggest inadequacy of common statistical techniques for reporting outcomes in clinical trials. The Fragility Index can measure how many events the statistical significance hinges on, and may facilitate better interpretation of trial results. This study aimed to assess the Fragility Index in pediatric randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with statistically significant findings published in h...

Direct determination of the kinetic fragility index of glassforming liquids by differential scanning calorimetry

A calorimetric method of obtaining directly the fragility of liquids from the fictive temperatures of variably quenched glasses, is outlined. "Steepness indexes" m, have been determined for a group of molecular liquids of diverse character, and vary in the range 50-150. The values obtained mostly agree well with those from earlier studies using dielectric relaxation, heat capacity spectroscopy,...
